Gamecube not till March for Europe

Tendobox is reporting that Nintendo's Gamecube will not be hitting European shelves till March 2002. Why, when Europe is such a huge marketplace, are we constantly placed at the back of the queue for gaming releases.

  • Europe is a big market in terms of hardware, but in terms of software it's only about a tenth of the size of Japan, unfortunately, and due to the fact that this is where they (Nintendo especially), make their money, it's no surprise that they're hardly chomping at the bit to get the hardware out at the same time.

It's a sad state of affairs, but when they have new video technology to build for (PAL) and different voltage systems (220-240V) they have to stray a fair bit away from the development model to make the machine work.

Add to this the fact that they can hardly keep production up to demand in their own country too, and there's little wonder. Only 1.1 million machines are going to be built, in total, before Christmas!

  • Is that true, I thought Europe was supposedly the second biggest market now. Not sure if that's behind the US or Japan mind..
