Infogrames are debating changing their trading name to Atari. Its one of the all time great gaming brandnames, but surely people will not be fooled by this sheep in wolf's clothing ploy..

They can't!!! When will I ever wear my t-shirt again?! :(
Atari were the greatest game company that never was... after the success of the 2600, they managed to miss out on being industry leaders for every single one of their products... the only one that still gets kudos is the ST for its MIDI capabilities. The brand is too cool for those French publishers.
Ooh, Atari was born the same year as you Dan, a fine vintage. But I get Star Wars, Nevermind The Bollocks and the death of Elvis so I'm not complaining..
1972 gave us Pong, The Godfather, Deliverance, Speilberg's Duel, Neil Youngs "Harvest", Sly and the Family Stones "Family Affair", The Jimmy Castor Bunches "Troglodyte", Rolling Stones "Exiles on Main Street", Curtis Mayfields "Superfly", Continuing war in Vietnam etc etc. Some talentless fat bloke passing out on the loo just doesn't come close..
Okay, okay, you win. Even if I have no idea who Jimmy Castor or what Troglodyte is. And despite the fact that you obviously had a "things made in 1972" site on your side. :)
..what claim do they have to the name? Did they just buy it, or do they have some historical connection to Atari? Seems like totally false advertising if they're no relation.

And what will become of Atari Teenage Riot?!? :) They'll have to change to the Alec Empire Doo-Wop Band or something..

Jimmy Castor created some of "the" Breaks which defined early Hip Hop. I hadn't realised but "Its Just Begun" was released in 1972 too :)
